Cinema: Get Me Roger Stone // SIB

20 February - 20:00 - 22:00

On Thursday, February 20, the Committee of Intellectual Activities will organize her first SIB Cinema of the decade. That means that we will show you an amazing and inspiring documentary with drinks and snacks included!
The documentary we are going to show is ‘Get Me Roger Stone’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IPyv4KgTAA). Roger Stone is an American political consultant, author, lobbyist, and strategist known for his use of opposition research. Since the 1970s, Stone has worked on the campaigns of Republican politicians, such as Nixon (of which he has a tattoo on his back), Reagan and Trump, whose rise shocked the world. There is one man who has been plotting everything from Watergate to this: Roger Stone.
Stone officially left the Trump campaign on August 8, 2015. However, as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States election, two associates of Stone have said he collaborated with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during the 2016 presidential campaign to discredit Hillary Clinton. Stone and Assange have denied these claims. On January 25, 2019, Stone was arrested in connection with Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel investigation and charged in an indictment with witness tampering, obstructing an official proceeding, and five counts of making false statements. Then on November 15, subsequent to the results of the Mueller Report and Special Counsel investigation, Stone was convicted of seven felonies related to his work for the Trump campaign, for which he will be sentenced on February 6, 2020.
Diving deep into the mind of the master manipulator, Get Me Roger Stone provides a raw perspective on the transformation of American politics. Inspired by a New Yorker article by writer Jeffrey Toobin, the filmmakers embarked on a five-year journey to make a documentary about Stone to tell the story of his transformative effect on modern politics – which reaches its climax in 2016 with the election of Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States of America.
Signing up is not necessary and you do not need to be a member. Walk-in starts at 19.40, we will start the documentary at 20.00. Please be on time, so you won’t disturb others.
We hope to see you there!
